How do you normally handle rude staff?
I usually give them a few warnings. If they continue after three warnings, I demote them. If they complain or start a fight after the demotion, I will ban them from the forum.

I actually was really lucky with staff, because I've never had a problem with any of them. I made sure that I actually knew the person for quite awhile before I even offered a staff position though. So I knew their personality already and knew they wouldn't cause me any problems. I just don't have time for that unnecessary drama.
But yeah, if I ever did have a rude staff member, I would just very politely tell them to get their act together if they still wanted to keep their position. And then go from there, depending on their reaction.

I think ive also been really lucky in the past and not really had any dealings with such staff members.
Although if i was to come across this kind of situation i would definitely have a chat with them about it first and try and get to the root cause of the issue to try and reach a compromise.
For me demoting or removing someone completely would be a last resort once all other avenues have been retired as people on forums will always have creative differences and not everyone will agree with their point of view.

I think the main issue I have had is inactive staff. xD See I am very different on the whole staff thing, mainly because getting onto my staff team is like going through 20 airports, I am pretty careful on how I hire. I haven't actually had a "rude" staff member before so I honestly don't know what I would do, I try to hire staff I know I won't have to worry about being rude or abusive, stopping it before it happens kind of thing.

We try to get to know members before promoting them. If they're a rude person in general then we wont ask them to join the team in the first place. If a staffer suddenly turns into a jerk overnight, I suppose we'd try to talk it out and if all else fails, demote them.

Generally, I'd chat with them first. If the message didn't sink in they would likely get the boot. It's important to maintain professional when interacting, especially as a staff member.

I try to get staff that i know from other forums often. But If I`m getting someone I don`t know to be staff I usually pick it based on how active they are or their post quality or attitude.

I have had a rude staff before, I gave them a warning, then they got mad and quit.
I have had staff that weren't online, so there in off duty.

I'm the sole staff member. Last time I ran a forum with 'staff' they all ended up being inactive so it was pretty pointless.
I prefer to not have other people moderate as it just means I have to worry about them going rogue or not doing what they should be doing. Just not worth the stress tbh. Running a forum and keeping everyone happy is hard enough without adding an extra potential problem to it.

Problem is, you can't truly trust anyone on the internet. The only way round it, IMO, is to 'hire' real life people you trust, like close friends. But then, even that can go awry.
A real life friend and I had a falling out over a topic on an internet forum years and years ago. It was silly, and I'm glad we finally made amends; but it goes to show how easily friendships can go south over silly things.

In what way? If I were ill or something? No, like if the forum was too hard too handle, needing support with it etc. Well, I don't know. There have been moments where I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall because members refuse to take my advice. But so far there hasn't been anything I couldn't handle over time. It can be stressful though.
