How much time do you spend on your forum/blog/website?
How much time do you think should be spent on a site in order for it to be successful (or be given the chance to be successful)?

I looked at this thread and suddenly though "I spend way too much damn time on the forum" but luckily that wasn't the question. I think it really depends on the forum, you spend as much time as you need to get it off the ground, and if that's all the time, then it's all the time. An hour a day might work but you have to spend time on other forums to get things moving as well, not just your own. Owning a forum is rather tricky, you have to not only spend time on other forums but spend that same time on your forum as well. Though, in all honesty, it's not how much time you spend, it's what you do in your time that makes the difference.

I don't think I can give you an accurate number of how much time I've spent on a successful forum. I think what helps make a forum successful is the ability to never stop advertising and being active in your community. I completely agree with 'Jack Frost' that it's not really about how much time you spend in your community it's what you are willing to do for your community that really matters. Spending hours in the site is part of it sure...but it's really what you do in those hours that matter.

I spend hours and days advertising my website. I also use traffic exchange networks to get the job done faster. I've not really had a perfect successful website but, I've have had long living websites a few times.

When I ran a forum I would often spend half of my day on just my forum, then the rest of the day I would pop in and out in-between playing video games or doing stuff with friends/family. Hard to put an actual hour count on that, but I can definitely tell you it was a lot of time. For a successful forum, I think this is basically what you have to do -- as an Admin at least. If you were a mod or lower tier staff member, you don't have to spend nearly as much time online per day. But to create a successful forum, you need to be online frequently and for long stretches of time

I also pop in and out all day, I'm usually online when I'm on my computer.

I also pop in and out all day, I'm usually online when I'm on my computer. Pretty much this but...I don't run a forum. Well, not anymore I honestly wonder how much time I spend on forums. Maybe 2-3 hours per day? Of course it's not in just one sitting.

I wouldn't know about what's successful, but I do think that even if you're not at your computer working at your site, you're thinking about it all the time. So even if you're only on the site for about 2-4 hours, you're probably thinking about what other improvements or ideas you can make come to life on your site.
