So I'm new to this area of design and wanted to experiment with the concept of creating a book cover. This is what I would imagine the book cover would look like for my book, if it ever got published (been working on it for the past 10+ years, off and on). The text is all authentic, nothing made up for the purpose of an example. I just wanted to see if I could get some opinions from you guys because I have never designed a book cover before and I'm not gonna lie, there were several previous [failed] attempts: Here's what I did... I took a photo that I'd taken out at Lake Erie in Pennsylvania around 2½ years ago on a trip to visit my dad, and the figure in the photo is actually my boyfriend's daughter, tweaked to look like a silhouette. Then I added the text. What do you all think? Does it look "professional" or is it still a bit amateur-ish? If you saw this in a bookstore, would it be enough to make you want to pick it up and read it? (Be honest, it won't hurt my feelings)

I might actually buy that! I love the font choice and there is no way you could tell who or what that was a silhouette of. Which, is a good thing given the "title."

Thank you Teg!! I was actually pretty pleased with this final result, and it was so simple to create. I started out making it too complicated and it just didn't work out very well on the first few attempts, lol. I'm thinking of actually putting together what I have so far of the book into the format of an actual e-book and see how it looks on my tablet's Nook app also. Or with an actual completed story. I should have done that for the Halloween contest story, now that I think of it! Anyway, thanks again for your feedback!

Good use of type! Is it a biography? I'm writing a book myself, need to carry on again with that, been meaning to for ages it's a biography about my adventures through renal failure, from diagnosis, through treatment, to transplant.

Good use of type! Is it a biography? I'm writing a book myself, need to carry on again with that, been meaning to for ages it's a biography about my adventures through renal failure, from diagnosis, through treatment, to transplant. Thank you! I read your question as "autobiography" instead at first, and I was going to say it was funny that you ask that, because I sort of unintentionally wrote a lot of aspects of my life and personality into the characters and situations. I didn't even realize it until I had a very close friend read the first part of the story years ago, and he pointed it out to me. I guess it could be considered a biography though because the main character is a 17-year-old girl who moves halfway across the country with her mother and younger sister, just after her parents' divorce, and then it jumps ahead 6 years later in the story, describing a few significant events in her life. I never considered it a biography though, just a piece of fiction that kind of dips into a few different genres. And yes, you should start up your book again, as it's so easy to lose that spark when writing -- trust me I know from experience! Haha, it's why I have been writing this for the past 10+ years.
