Every forum you know has some kind of rules, right? Whether it be from a Terms of Service or other community guidelines posted, but what about no rule forums? Where the forum literally has no rules. Would you join, or rather own, a no rules forum? For me, I think it would only work if the person owned their own server, Shared Hosting has "rules" so I don't think a no rules forum would work in that respect, but I would totally join a legitimate no rules forum if I ever found one, just seems like a great place to post and talk without worrying if the mod team is going to be offended by what you said and ban you. And I mean, there wouldn't be staff, so owning it would be a breeze compared to having staff and managing them too.

I was actually an admin on a forum that had no rules. All we did was spam. xD

I mean there are some rules but it's basically just saying "Use your common sense and treat others the way you would like to be treated." Haha. So yeah, I guess I would own one. I'm not big on a huge list of rules because it just seems too strict to me and that's not at all how I am or the kind of admin I would like to be. The more laid-back the better, in my opinion.

Honestly, it's an interesting concept. Not sure that I would personally join such a place as I need structure to function (lol). But, I use to be an admin on a spam forum and even that forum didn't last. The owner gave up on it as things got out of control.

Absolutely no rules may result in chaos.
People would start swearing, sharing inappropriate stuff and spamming and since the forum has "no rules", you have "no legit reason" to stop them.

No rules would mean that someone would think that anything goes, including things that violate the TOS.
I'm comfortable making and joining a board that has a set of guidelines to it. I like to keep some things loose, so I try not to limit everything that my members can do. For example, I don't mind if someone throws out the occasional four-letter word. I just don't want to see it overused.

I wouldn't want to join a no-rules forum. Think about it: Members could insult each other, post porn, or do literally anything else they wanted to do. Since you don't have any rules, you have absolutely no reason to stop them. I have a section (called the "IDGAF Zone") where I don't moderate, and members can do anything except post porn or blatant link filled spam.

I think I would not enjoy a no-rules forum. Too much spam, no structure, and probably a lot of members just being very toxic towards each other. I think there needs to be some rules, loose or strict, to how a forum should run. That way the community isn't complete chaos, and you don't get in trouble with your host

I think for me it comes down to the idea that I don't think a rules-free board solves anything than just making better rules. A rules-free board would be a novelty, but I would hardly make it my regular online hangout.

We started out with only a few rules, but now we had to expand a little more Yep, I understand. My forum didn't have that many rules at the beginning either, but people kept doing things and I eventually had to add more.
