Alrighty, so a few years ago there was this feature in MyBB (I think PB had it do for a while in 4.x) called Hell Banning, or "shadow banning" for those against using the word hell. It basically hid all the posts made by the person you had "banned" from public view, so if they made a new post, it would not show up for anyone but that one member you banned; and it was rather helpful considering the boards were members only, so guests couldn't view the content and the members really didn't care to tell anyone if they were hell banned or not. xD Have you ever hell banned someone, or would you if this was a feature?

I would if this was a feature. Great idea for some people.

Why not just leave those posts? If it is only a few threads, then delete them.
At this moment the feature that was mentioned is not a necessity for my websites.

You have to wonder at the sort of forum that would ban a member for using the word Hell lol! Though saying that, I was given a hefty warning on a hamster forum a while ago for using the word "shedload", because one of the moderators thought I was alluding to the word "sh*tload". This despite telling said moderator that "shedload" is a very common term meaning "a large amount of something", and even cited source materials saying as such.

Hell! I've never heard of such a thing. Interesting in theory, but I wouldn't personally use something like that. I really don't see a point in it.

Hell is not even the worst swear word out there. I probably wouldn't use the feature, as I don't see a point in deceiving someone like that. And it's pointless anyway since no one else would be able to see what they were posting. It would be a complete waste of time for the person being made to think that they weren't banned also.

Hell is not even the worst swear word out there. Exactly. xD I pretty much say it everyday but that's besides the point. xD When I was helping run a rather medium/large forum (500k posts? something like that) we actually used to hell ban people a lot, as it's not really "banning them." People started getting mad that we would ban people, so instead of deal with the drama we developed a plugin like this (since none was for the software at the time) and used that instead, and it worked. It gave staff the time to deem the person fit to start posting again and it would leave the person that was banned oblivious to our moderation action which really helped out because it gaves us the ability to see if having them as a member was actually a good idea. It's much better than banning people and having them evade. =P

I guess it would be a "nice" way to be able to decide if the person should be allowed to stick around or not. I've actually been fortunate enough to never have to deal with issues like that, except for people who are quite obviously spamming the forum (like with tons of links advertising WOW gold or some crap like that).
