So, banning is one of those things that forum administrators may not "like" to do, but sometimes they are forced to. What are some good reasons and bad reasons to ban a user from a forum?

Il go for .... Good Reasons - Complete disregard of Forum Rules and spoiling everyone elses enjoyment
- Abusive towards other members & staff
- Blatent Spammer
Bad Reasons- Without a reason
- Personal Reasons
- Constructive Criticism
Although im a firm believer that the use of such powers are for a last resort and not something that should be used lightly. Its always better to talk through an issue and try and stop it rather that ban someone and let problems increase. Dave

Spamming Threatening to hack Abusing powers (if they are staff) Having duplicate accounts Impersonating members and/or staff Stealing content Threatening members Disrespecting members and staff members (Of course we would give them plenty of warnings before banning)

But they might of made a new profile because they forgot their username or password, some forums don't have the "forgot your password"

But they might of made a new profile because they forgot their username or password, some forums don't have the "forgot your password" If that were to be the case, I'm sure they would be able to explain and then an administrator would be able to reset their password.

But they might of made a new profile because they forgot their username or password, some forums don't have the "forgot your password" I have no problem of having a 2nd account if all ways to retrieve the password are impossible. Several admins take that as "Bypass Bans" Making 2nd accounts can be also considered as "Necessary" for Role-Play-Games forums.

There are lots of thought that goes into creating a forums community. Most of the thought goes into the rules and guidelines so we can continue to make everyone happy and safe in all instances. I believe there are times that a staff member will have to ban a member for such reasons as spamming, scams, malware sites, and all sorts of things like that. Then there are times a staff member thinks he/she needs to ban someone because of past histories with them. That is not how it works, and if a staff member is no more professional than that then they shouldn't be on the team period. There is only one exception and that is if they feel their life is in endanger.

I've began a 3 strikes you're out type plan. First is a warning though so technically you get 4, with 3 being official warnings. And I'll give a pre-warning if whatever is happening is different from the original first prewarning. So for example if someone spams once and they get a pre-warning then next time they insult someone, there are 2 pre-warnings. But if they repeat an offense they get their first strike.
Spamming, being mean to other members, duplicated accounts (though I currently have one duplicated account person and I'm being nice and basically giving him another round of warnings. He has 1 warning left before he is banned and will never be able to return.)
I'm pretty easy going but I have my rules >.<

I'm pretty lenient, spamming I think is a pretty obvious answer. Basically, if you do anything illegal, it's a ban if you've done it more than once. Threatening, sexal harrasment usually earn a ban immedialty. Everything else they just rack up warnings and suspensions, to get banned by me on my forum is pretty rare. This is the internet, you cannot nit-pick a ton. Posting porn, etc. I don't allow but again it doesn't get a ban, they just get posting privileges revoked. Personally ,you don't need a ban when you can simply suspend their posting privileges. They can see, just cannot post. Works the same IMO.
