So you have your own domain name and hosting space.
What things can you use your domain and hosting for ?
Im interested to see what ideas people come up with for this and if anything interesting arises might look into doing something similar if its feasible.

Well, I use my domain name for my sites always. With my hosting, I have the option to set up unlimited email addresses and sub-domains with installations of Several applications like WordPress, myBB, phpBB, etc. I use the subdomains and custom emails as awards for members, and then each staff member automatically gets an email That is, if they choose to have one.

Well, I just use mine for posting a more thorough portfolio of my photography and graphic design work. My boyfriend hosts the site, I just own the domain. So he has access to the back end if I ever wanted more emails or subdomains, which I've only used one for my photoblog, although I was using another one as a test site for a "client" whom I was redesigning her website. Since he's basically my IT guy, I just have him do all of that stuff when/if I need it. But for the updating of my site, I use Joomla. It basically does all the coding for me, since I'm not as experienced in that department. I have the option of allowing people to create their own user accounts and stuff if I wanted to collaborate with someone on posting articles to my site, but I don't use it for that.

Ive never really looked into Joomla before as ive always used Wordpress. Which would you say was the easiest to use for a newbie like me Dave Hm, well as I've never used Wordpress, I may not have a good answer for you. If you're not familiar with Joomla, it will probably require a little bit of reading first, just to get the hang of things. Though they have updated the software multiple times since I first started using it, and it may be easier to comprehend now when just starting out. I haven't updated to the latest version yet on my personal site because it will require much more time since I want to have everything backed up, just in case... but I also use Joomla to run my dad's geology consulting & production website, that one has been updated and they've redesigned the admin panel to be a bit more efficient. I use more modules on my site than on my dad's so that's why I need the time to make sure that they are all compatible with the new version and everything. Since I don't really have any knowledge/experience with WordPress, here's a review that I found, comparing the two: WordPress vs. JoomlaHopefully that will help give some insight for you also.

You can use web hosting and a domain name for anything you can imagine. Even gift them.

That's what I do and my hosting offers cloudflare and I can have unlimited addon domains I think.
