So, when you purchase a domain, what extension (.com, .net, etc.) do you opt for? Why do you like one extension over the others?

Yes, what @dave said about the .com. Though when I bought my website's domain, I also bought .net, .org and .info (because they had a sale going on at the time) and then had those URLs link to the .com. I've since let .org and .info expire though, but I still have .net, which re-directs to the .com. Funny story, shortly after I bought the .com, I got a message on facebook from someone else with the same name as me (though her last name was through marriage, unlike mine) offering me money to let her have that domain name, since she was trying to start a photography business or some crap. I didn't let her have it.

It depends on the site that i'm working on, and how much I look to spend at the time. Sometimes, if it's just a test site I go with whatever is the cheapest on NameCheap at the time.

I always go for the .com if available, and if other common ones are unregistered (.net or .org for example) I get them too
