What do you do when activity gets down on your forum/website?

I promote my forum on multiple websites, and I create new topics for my members to engage in conversations. I also try different contests to bring in more activity.

Definitely try to encourage users to post and participate in contests to help get a forum's activity to rise. Sometimes, I host contests for no reason at all. But, they seem to get members to be more active in the community.

Promote my forum on multiple websites. I actually have a list of where I promote my forum (which consists of over 50 different promotion forums, active and inactive). Good for SEO and good for exposure.

I usually create content on my forum, new topics contests and polls. Then I advertise around a bit. Then usually I'd send out a bulk email letting members know of any contests or events going on or upcoming.

I think creating topics and everything is cool, and it definitely helps. However I think you have to look into the issue and ask yourself why activity might be down, from saying "it's just the time of year" or randomly asking people in a PM why they think activity could be down. Usually it's because topics are not being made, etc. but sometimes the issue could lie deeper.
That's what I do when activity is down, shows I care and could always uncover a hidden issue you didn't think of.

Start a contest and bump all advertisement topics so people see the link to our forum again.
